We are lucky enough in Mildura to be part of "Australia's 3rd Real Network"
Neighborhood Cable (NCable, now part of TransACT) actually have their own Cable Network laid (hung really - not really hung) around town. Plus we have enjoyed Broadband Wireless for the last few years too.
I'm on the wireless network - tiny little dish on the roof, all installed free thanks to the house being a non-ADSL part of town, even though we are in a built up area.
Since 2005 I have enjoyed speeds of 30Mbps down, 2Mbps up. They are in the final stages of DOCIS 3 approval for the equipment which will really kick it in. At the moment to download a 350Mb TV show takes about 5-7 minutes. Needless to say high speed streaming of video is not an issue.
I'm always surprised the NCable Network isn't used more as what can really be done in a regional area. They also cover Ballarat and Geelong. They are a great example of what can be done when you decide what to do something.
