The funds came straight out of my bank account, I used to keep a float of $300 in my PayPal account but I needed that for eBay, I haven't bought anything on eBay for a few years so once the float ran out I didn't bother topping up.

That's probably why there's a delay.

If someone pays me with PayPal then it appears in my PayPal account right away.

If I want to withdraw money from PayPal and put it in my own bank account then it takes a couple of days but thats not unusual. I get SWIFT transfers every fortnight from Netherlands and it takes a couple of days - used to be 3-5 but more likely 2-3 now.

Even someone in Australia paying me with BPay takes a day or 2 for the funds to show up.

That was my point, the record may be there in your account but the funds aren't immediately available. I suspect they were just making sure the funds would be available before doing the refund.

The fundage is available for me to spend via PayPal though. PayPal is probably the new "black market" for a lot of people.

ok, I've never tried using funds to buy in that time frame, so that's good to know.

Guess my point is PayPal is no different to any other type of transfer.

If someone does a Direct Deposit in my bank, or pays via BPay, or my credit card dudes in Europe send me money via SWIFT - it all takes a day or 3.

For that main reason I only accept PayPal for my ebay sales - the money is in my PayPal account immediately for me to use.
