Probably is the older so that it is more of a known quantity for a first release device.
(Based on the scant video footage we've already seen) imagine how snappy the iPad will be when they refine an A9 processor!

Idly wondering if Apple are just going to do a bit "Pro" hardware update a few weeks before the iPad to get them out the way.
Because if they don't come out next Tuesday, I don't see them wanting to do them at all until May (WWDC June?) so to give the iPad a clear run.
